Vatican City (CATican City!)

Rome: Day II! (See what I did there? ROMAN NUMERALS! I am a very clever kitten, I know!) We started the day off with some weird soupy eggs and warm milk and cereal. If you ever have a chance to have warm milk and cereal, I recommend you do not. Not only is it putrid, but it smells like pure evil. But it did get us ready to face an entire day of The Holy See!

Getting to the Vatican City from our hotel was a bit of a trick. It was too close to really justify a taxi and almost too far to walk. Dan, being the frugal frump he is, opted to walk it. I am not sure if you have walked 2 kill o meters with NO LEGS but it is NOT EASY. EDIT: OK ok so Dan is making me clarify here. Technically I didn’t walk any where, I was in my pack pack on Dan’s back the whole time. BUT it was a VERY bumpy ride! I can only handle so much!

Eventually, after many many grueling hours in on the back of a sweaty human, we arrive in Vatican City! It’s such a strange place! A country inside a country, a city inside a city…how wonderfully bizarre! And the people! SO many people from all around come to see all the old relics and ancient artifacts in the Vatican Museum…or as its locally called, Musei Vaticani…which roughly translates to Muse of Vacation I believe.

There were many wondrous things to See (eh…eh…See what I did there?! I keep doing it!), like the immortal Jude Law (pictured below), a ton of other marble busts and statues dating back to the early days B.C. (Before Chip, thank you very much!) and of course, the coo coo Neil deGrasse, The Cistern Chaplin! OH COME ON ANOTHER EDIT?!: Apparently its called the Sistine Chapel and its where a ninja turtle drew a bunch of pictures on the ceiling and went crazy doing it….OK OK where a famous painter named Michelangelo painted a very famous scene centered around the “Creation of Adam”. A very beautiful rendition of a dude almost, but not quite, touching another dude’s outstretched finger.

It was very loud in the Chapel until a very nice and soft spoken priest quieted everybody down, reminding them that this was, in fact, a holy place and that it should be respected. Also the Chapel itself is a VERY small room and there were about five thousand people in there, so it was very very crowded. Still an amazing sight though! The rest of the day was spent looking at more old stuff and some more amazing rock piles around the city…and ended with us NOT going to St. Peter’s Basilica. There was a line at least a mile long and so many people waiting and Dan was getting very hangry and snapping at me, so we took of in search of food (at a deli that had delicious ham sammys!) and a good long nap!

Dinner consisted of pizza a this AMAZING place called San Marco! The waiter didn’t even frown at me sitting at the table and was impressed that I could eat an entire pizza alone! Apparently he had never seen a hungry kitten! Stay tuned for the Cat Sanctuary and more recounting of stone steps in tomorrows post!
