Eventually. After a grueling 9 hour flight from Austin, TX to Heathrow in London, UK, then a 3 hour lay over in the large but terribly boring Terminal 5, another 3 hour flight from London to Rome, Italy….we arrive!
Dan had booked us a room at the lovely Hotel Dei Mellini…which I think means Hotel of the Melons. They had even heard I was coming (obviously why this happened, I am an international ambassador) and upgraded our room to a suite! Best room in the hotel we were told! What a way to live! The view was…a little lack luster…but the accommodations were superb! Breakfast every morning! Something called ‘turn down’ service. I had thought it was silly, sending someone up to your room just to say no to your every demand. Dan informed me its just a fancy way of folding your sheets before bedtime. Still a little silly but the decadence is something I CAN appreciate.
This is about all we did that day…arrive, check in, and the dinner at a little place called Visconti 2.0. While the mushroom pizza was delicious, our waiter Pablo did not take kindly to kittens that sit on the table and don’t know Italian. It was quite uncomfortable. I highly recommend the food.
